Houlihan, P. 1996. The Animal World of the Pharaohs London
Fig. 31. Drawing of the rich decoration carved on either side of an ivory knife handle of a flint knife probably belonging to a great hunter, featuring a bestiary of game animals recorded in minute detail, row upon row, with the utmost skill and care.

Some 227 individual creatures are represented on the knife handle. Without much difficulty we can distinguish African Elephants trampling intertwined serpents, the now extinct Saddlebill Stork (Ephippiorhynchus senegalensis), Giraffe, Lion, African Wild Ass, Barbary Sheep, Scimitar-horned Oryx, Nubian Ibis, North African Porcupine, Aurochs, and others.

From Abu Zaidan, south of Edfu. Late Predynastic Period (Naqada III). The Brooklyn Museum,.
